Absolutely Spellbound

I feel a little silly but my adrenalin is running wild....and over the Scripps National Spelling Bee. I was actually wishing some of the spellers ill will and screaming at the TV like some crazed testosterone frenzied football-watching maniac. I was more agitated than when I watch figure skating competitions. I am telling you what.....who knew? This makes me want to rent and watch the documentary Spellbound that tracked the 1999 spelling bee. I gotta give props to those kids. I am a damned good speller but some of those words would have killed me. I was totally rooting for the kid who won, David Tidmarsh. The kid was absolutely adorable in his personality and behavior, hiding behind his placard and hyperventalating when he had to spell one more word for the win. The picture on the website does him NO justice. He does not look like that at all. The kid wins $12k, plus the trophy, plus $5k from some company, plus a $1k savings bond, and an encyclopedia set (of course) among other things.

I see a future career in spelling bees.
