So, I read this on cnn.com, and I can honestly say I am not surprised. For years I would pop all kinds and brands of anti-cold/flu medication anytime I was sick. My colds would last anywhere from a week to two weeks and on average, I was sick four times a year. So one day I got sick and tired of forking out money for these pills, gel caps and liquid elixirs all promising to cure my ails. It was bullshit. It did nothing but empty my wallet. Those "medications" are not cure-alls. The length of time they "aleve" your symptoms are pretty short. And over time, your body builds up a resistance to all the drugs in the pills, so they eventually do nothing for you. The best thing is the oldest thing....REST & SLEEP. Trust me. I managed to shorten my colds down to 3 days. Granted, this year I was sick 11 times, more than any other time in my life, no thanks to certain events, factors and people that just stressed me out beyond belief; HOWEVER, the pills are a no mo.

Back to the article. In short, and something I believe Sara would agree with, if you feel the need to medicate, go the homeopathic route. You would be AMAZED at how much more effective it is. For example, I just learned this recently when I kept seeing this weird collection of strings on the kitchen counter whenever I went to my mom's house. Apparently, you collect the silk from fresh corn, dry it out, store it in a jar. When you are sick and congested, infuse the dried silks, drink the tea and you're cured. Sounds weird I know, but trust me, I have tried 3 different family "old world" cures and they have all worked - including a NASTY, but EFFECTIVE, boiled brew of whole lemons and garlic.
So there you go. Eschew those ridiculous drug companies looking to make a buck off your insecurities and impatience and just REST.
