Oh My Stars and Larys
Well last night were the dreaded-but-turned-out-not-so-bad Lary Awards. I was fortunate enough to be asked to perform the opening and closing ceremonies after I previously, begrudgingly, agreed to perform my number from Crazy for You. Turned out to be a swell evening that went by rather quick thanks to the pleasant company and laughs provided by James, Amanda, Jason & Jason, Joey and Lorraine. I usually hate performing at these kinds of live things because I spaz out and get extremely nervous. I never get nervous before I have to perform, but something about these live things gets me going. But it all went off without the hitch. The audience loved the opening number and Fortner's mini-Lary opus. James' and my number went off swimmingly well to our surprise as we felt that out of the context of the show the number would not be funny. Hot dog eating apparently always gets a laugh. And the closing number, despite one hiccup with me, went very well. Crazy for You won stacks of awards which I was proud of. I won for choreographer, Amanda and James for their roles, Jason and Jason for their respective directions, and Fortner for sets. With all the work that was put into the show, it was well-deserved.
Not much else is going on. Hung out with Tony and David and played some gin rummy and scrabble...this time the Aryan beat the minorities. Whatever....
MUST find a place to live. If anyone knows of ANY houses or duplexes for rent, let me know. I have to be out by the 31st and would prefer not to do apartment living anymore. I think I am getting the nesting thing.
Missed my girl Sara's b-day bash at the Castle on Saturday night because I was a drooling knocked-out mess. But I see she had an AMAZING time, which I am ecstatic about.
And on a final amazing note, I got a call from my childhood best friend (we were separated during the war and have slowly made connections again over the years). She is getting married....to an American....who is black. This, of course, is not a big deal to me, but in my culture....wooooo lordy. She told me how she met some resistance until the family met him, then they slowly cooled off. I am so happy for her and also feel somewhat blue about it. Everyone I know is getting married or having kids (YAY Laurie! Five months!!!!). I feel like I should be conforming....
Right....me....wed and with child. Wooooo lordy....
