Updating is turning into a nightmare for me. My days go something like this:
1) Wake up at 8 a.m., get my ass in gear and head out to teach.
2) Done by 5:30, 6:30 or 7 depending on the day of the week.
3) Go to rehearsal where I often deal with the innane behaviors of people who think much too highly of themsevles. Why is it always the least talented who have the most to say and the largest egos?
4) Drive home as fast as I can so I can:
4a) Shower
4b) Eat
4c) Answer e-mails
4d) Watch TV for 30 minutes
4e) Get to bed by at LEAST 1 am.
In between all this I TRY to make phone calls and hope people don't think I have abandoned them or hung them out to dry.
Auditions for Dames went well. I have a cast of funny people who will work great together. All those years of being an anal organizer is paying off, but I can see how some of the silly stuff can drive directors crazy. But it is all working out. As odd as it is not to have someone to report to and ask questions of, I can fully understand the allure and relief that Fosse and Bennett must have had when they decided to become choreographer-directors. I expect bumps in the road and I expect to handle them swimmingly.
Going to be choreographing by first non-studio dance piece for UT in the next few months. Best thing is that I get to have the music created from scratch which will be great. Thank you (you know who).
School...well...lol....I LOVE a lot of my students and just shake my head at the rest. Go read the school blog sometimes at the end of the week. It never ceases to amaze me. Consumerism and corporatization at its best.
Plans to move to NY this August are coming to full fruition now that I have a roomie. Some paths are opening up which should help me out quite a lot.
And now....I go to teach grammar.
