Go See this Movie NOW!!!
I was SO worried after watching RENT and The Producers that this movie was going to be crap, but had faith since Condon's name was attached to it.
So I saw the first showing this morning despite the thunderstorm and I LOVED IT! What was so abstract in the original, and worked well, was made so concrete in the movie, and worked even better. Beyonce surprised me and did much better than I thought she could. Jennifer Hudson was more amazing that I expected her to be. Eddie Murphy totally blew me away.
You MUST see this movie. I just can't say enough about it.
And even though Miss B tried to show up the "And I am Telling you Moment" with her song "Listen" (and WHY would you even try), and even though Jamie Foxx falls a little short on the singing every now and then, I just thought it was incredible.
As far as I am concerned, just let Condon take care of all the musical-to-movie movies from now on. He seems to be the only one who can do it right.
